Determinant of permutation matrix (elementary matrix of type 2)
I would like to know why the determinant of a permutation matrix of size
nxn (elementary matrix of size nxn of type 2) is -1. I'm brand new to
determinants and I've tried expanding it and using cofactor expansion, but
it's messy and complicated.
I would prefer if someone could show me using expansion, but alternative
methods are welcome.
